The Performer
It all started
when I was 10 and my father (right, middle) decided that I should
take guitar lessons. He had the idea we would go out and perform
together. Well I hated the lessons of course and put the guitar
aside. A year later dad died and that guitar was beckoning. The
passion has not subsided. I went from the bass player in the band
(that's me at 14) to a full fledged entertainer, performing nearly
200 shows a year for upwards of 20,000 people.
The Professional
My profession is
marketing, particularly
healthcare. I consult and speak to hospitals globally. It was during
one of my hospital jobs that these two careers intersected and I
found a mission and an advocacy for entertaining older adults and
for working to assure that their respect and dignity are maintained
and honored.
The intersection of these two careers has had
some unexpected but wonderful side benefits. For example my advocacy
work for older adults has led me to become a local ombudsman in
Charlotte. And I find myself speaking more and more on senior issues
and being called on for my expertise in this area.
The most interesting thing to happen is how I
have evolved into a professional speaker. Sure I have spoken a lot
in my professional career but I never brought the performance
elements of what I do into the mix. And on the other side, I never
used my performances as platforms for speaking and using songs and
stories for making points. THAT IS UNTIL NOW. You can find
